Can online website builders really be free?

My previous post was about ‘Keeping Your Website Updated with Creative Story-Telling’. I suggested that a good online website builder can equip you with a good and search-friendly business website. Lets now check whether these free website builders are actually free?

As a business, where should you start from if you want to explore this amazing digital arena? As a startup you have limited resources and limited technical know-how. To aggravate the situation, you have limited time for profiling and promoting itself online. Hence, you settle with a Facebook Business Page and/or a LinkedIn Company Page to get their business online. But soon you realize that social media pages do provide you the reach and engagement you desire for. After some time you eventually comprehend that you need to seriously promote your business to the world and you require a full featured website of your own to achieve the same.

Then you put your stake on online website builder applications like Wix, Weebly or Squarespace that provide website templates and tools that you can play around with to create websites with limited capabilities. Although, the services website builders like Wix and Weebly provide are free of cost, what doesn’t go well with various popular website builders like Wix and Weebly is the fact that their so-called ‘FREEMIUM’ model comes at a cost. Website builders have domain name limitation and do not get you the branding benefits (example: xyz.weebly.com). Also, as soon as you reach the threshold of provided numbers in their ‘FREE’ package, you are asked to move to ‘premium’ package for a fee. So practically, you are only free on these ‘FREE Website Builders’ for a limited access and until you promise to promote them by suffixing their brand-name in your official website address.
